Listening Service

"Supporting our Community"

About the Listening Service

The Listening Service is a culturally appropriate listening and reflective service.

It is not counselling, we don’t give advice and we don’t ask questions about what is shared by the speaker. We don’t judge and we don’t interrupt.

The service is available to people regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, or faith.

The Listening Service offers a welcoming, safe, culturally sensitive, and confidential space for anyone over 18, to talk and our volunteers to listen.

All our volunteers have completed expert-led listening and trauma training.

It is a space for you to:

– talk in private to a trained listener
– unpack difficult and personal problems
– share anything that is on your mind
– unload difficult situations and relationships
– be heard
– explore your own personal difficulties and feelings

All information shared with a Listener will be treated as confidential, that commitment will only be broken if the Listener has concerns about your own safety or that of another person or is made aware of any serious illegal activity.

You can book a session with a Listener for:

– Face to face*
– Phone
– Zoom

* Face to face sessions will take place at: Jesus Christ Apostolic, 50 Gledhow Road, Leeds, LS8 5ES.

Why Use Our Listening Service?

– Sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends
– The listener will give you time to talk, cry, shout or just think
–  It’s an opportunity to look at your problems in a different way with someone who’ll respect you and your opinions
– Talking can help you to feel better
